The Chiropractic Approach

Chiropractic has an excellent record with disc sufferers, often saving them from bleak prospect of surgery. Chiropractic care is also often effective at helping those who already have gone through orthopedic surgery.

According to one study of 1,536 lumbar spinal problem patients who were under chiropractic care, 96.4% had a satisfactory result!!! Surgery was resorted to in 3.4% of the patients. This study showed two things: one, that chiropractic care is extremely effective with spinal disc problems and two, that of those who had surgery, the delay in time while they explored chiropractic care did not cause them any harm.

What if You Had Surgery?

But what if the person has already had spinal surgery, you ask? According to S. Normal Shealy, M.D. of the University of Minnesota Pain and Rehabilitation Center, less than one in ten of the lumbar disc surgeries performed in this country (USA) are warranted. He further states that if one such surgery is ineffective, a second, third, or more will not improve the situation.

And yes, it is possible for a chiropractor to adjust someone's spinal column if they've had surgery. Although the surgery may have permanently altered some of the spine, it is still not too late for chiropractic care. The chiropractor won't be able to undo the surgery, but can often help relieve the pain (and frustration) of Failed Back Surgery Syndrome and may prevent the need for future operations.

Prevention

The best results for chiropractic care are the ones you never hear about— the health problems that we prevented from getting worse because of prompt action.

Clearly, before your spine starts complaining to you, it is wise to get a simple chiropractic spinal check-up. You get your eyes, your hearing, your blood pressure checked, why not your spine?

Can A Person Do a Chiropractic Adjustment on Himself?

Every Chiropractor has, at one time or another encountered someone who would actually brag how easy it is to "crack" themselves. Some even demonstrate various positions that cause "popping" sounds to mimic the sound that a chiropractic adjustment often produces.

Little do these people know that a simple "popping" sound is never the same as "correcting a subluxation". This self-adjustment could often even lead to more subluxations, more "popping" in other parts of the spine, and more pain in the long run.

How are the "popping sounds made? Click NEXT below.
